One of my favorite things about 4th of July, other than celebrating our freedom and fireworks of course, is all of the red, white, and blue desserts! It feels like every year I’m coming up with a new way to combine these patriotic colors into a fun and festive treat! These 4th of July strawberries are my new favorite because they’re so easy to make, plus they’re bright and colorful! And who doesn’t like chocolate covered strawberries (other than my chocolate hating son, ha!). They’re the perfect addition to any 4th of July party!

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

Three ingredients – unlike some chocolate covered strawberries that mix things with the chocolate, this recipe only uses three ingredients – chocolate/candy melts, strawberries, and sprinkles!Quick to make – these only take as long to make as it takes you to dip some strawberries in chocolate! Fifteen minutes tops plus a little bit of time to let the chocolate cool before eating!

Ingredients

Ingredient Notes

White candy melts or white chocolate melting wafers – you can use either one, just depends on your preference for taste. White chocolate melting wafers give you the taste of actual white chocolate whereas white candy melts taste like well, candy melts. I have found that actual white chocolate sometimes takes a bit longer to harden so if you’re in a rush, try the candy melts. Strawberries – make sure they’re washed and completely dry! Nonpareil sprinkles – these are best made with the small round balls called nonpareils (like I use for my fairy bread recipe) rather than the long sprinkles, but you could also us those in a pinch.

Instructions

The first thing you need to do is probably the most important – wash your strawberries then pay dry with a paper towel. If you don’t dry them completely, you risk the chance of accidentally getting water into your chocolate, which can cause it to seize, harden, and become undippable. It’s tough to make 4th of July chocolate covered strawberries when your chocolate is hard. Once your strawberries are washed, melt your white chocolate or candy melts in a small but deep bowl (so you have a thick area for dipping) on 30 second increments, stirring between each one, until fully melted. Don’t have a microwave or would prefer not to use one? Use a double boiler or place your candy into a glass bowl and place it on top of a pot of water. Bring the water to a boil and the boiling water will melt the candy. Once the candy is melted, dip the strawberries into the melted candy until they’re about 2/3 covered then immediately dip them into the sprinkles so that 1/3 is covered. This will give you the red, white, and blue effect. Place the strawberries on either wax lined paper or parchment paper to set. Repeat with all of your strawberries, giving them at least a little bit of space on the paper to dry without touching the others. Once completely hardened, serve and enjoy immediately.

Or wait a few hours and serve then if you’re doing something like a 4th of July celebration! These would make a great addition to this strawberry poke cake and my strawberry mojito mocktail!

Expert Tips

Eat these the day they are made for the best flavor and texture. You can make them a couple of hours ahead of time, but they’re going to be best enjoyed the day you make them. If you do want to make them the day before, just know that the strawberries inside may be softer than you were expecting.
